About this product

The Verhaeghe brewery has been producing Bourgogne des Flandres since 1957. However, the recipe did not belong to them and was sold to the John Martin Brewery in the early 1990s. However, the Verhaeghe brewery decided to make another brown beer with a similar name. hence "Duchesse de Bourgogne". The "Duchess of Bourgogne" refers to Maria of Burgundy, wife of Maximilian of Austria. Which is shown here on the label.
The Duchesse de Bourgogne is an old brown or, more correctly: West Flemish red-brown, top-fermented beer with an alcohol content of 6.2%. It has a density of 16° Plato. After the main fermentation and a second storage, the beer matures for another 18 months in oak barrels. An "old brown beer" is always a bit sour - the oak provides the fruity taste here.
The Duchesse de Bourgogne is one of the two West Flemish red-brown beers from the Verhaeghen brewery.
It really is a special Belgian beer that is worth getting to know!
You can also enjoy this beer in a wine glass.
